NANS Demands Swift Rescue of Abducted Ogun Polytechnic Students

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has condemned the abduction of five students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, Ogun State, describing the incident as a troubling sign of worsening insecurity around tertiary institutions.

In a statement issued by its President, Akinteye Babatunde, NANS called on the Federal Government, the Ogun State Government and security agencies to ensure the immediate rescue of the students and strengthen security across campuses nationwide.

The students were reportedly kidnapped after armed men attacked a private hostel along Paraga Road in Ipara on July 29, 2026.

NANS noted that the incident came shortly after another security breach at D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori, where an HND II student was killed and several others injured during a robbery attack.

Describing the attacks as unacceptable, the association said students should not have to risk their lives in pursuit of education, stressing that the safety of students is non negotiable.

The student body urged the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to deploy all necessary resources to secure the unconditional release of the abducted students.

NANS also called on governments at all levels to invest in affordable on campus accommodation, arguing that improved hostel facilities would reduce the security risks associated with off campus living.

The association reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for the welfare and safety of Nigerian students until the abducted students are rescued and lasting security measures are put in place across tertiary institutions.
