Landslide Cuts Off Major Road in Calabar After Heavy Rainfall

A major waterfront road in Calabar Municipality, Cross River State, has been severely damaged following a landslide triggered by persistent rainfall.

The incident occurred around the ANSA area of the city, with no deaths reported as of the time of filing this report.

The latest incident is said to be the third landslide recorded in Calabar in recent times, raising concerns over the increasing impact of heavy rainfall on roads and other critical infrastructure in the city.

Residents in the affected area have expressed fears that continued rainfall could worsen the situation, potentially causing further damage, disrupting movement and putting lives and property at risk.

They are therefore calling on the state government and relevant authorities to urgently intervene by carrying out remedial works and implementing long term measures to stabilise the affected area.

The recurring landslides have also renewed concerns about the need for proper drainage, erosion control and improved infrastructure maintenance as the rainy season intensifies.

Residents are urging authorities to act promptly to prevent the affected road from suffering further collapse and to avert a possible disaster.
