Awka North Mayor Anago Wins 2026 Best Local Government Chairman in Nigeria Award

The Mayor of Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Chief ThankGod Anago, has been honoured as the 2026 Best Local Government Chairman in Nigeria by the National Leadership Award.
The award was presented to Chief Anago in Abuja by the Chairman of the National Leadership Award, Chief Perry Opara, who said the organisation had closely monitored the Mayor’s leadership and developmental initiatives in Awka North.
Opara said Chief Anago’s purposeful leadership had contributed significantly to the development of the local government and complemented the administration of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo in the collective pursuit of a liveable, safe and prosperous Anambra State.
He noted that the Awka North Mayor had demonstrated character, competence and compassion in the implementation of policies and programmes aimed at improving the welfare of the people.
According to him, the Mayor’s interventions in human capital development and infrastructure, particularly in the areas of healthcare, education, security and general development, have set a remarkable standard in local government administration.
He added that the legacies being established by the Anago administration would continue to benefit both the present generation and generations yet unborn.
Receiving the award, Chief Anago expressed appreciation to the National Leadership Award for recognising his contributions to the development of Awka North.
The Mayor dedicated the honour to Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, whom he credited with providing him the platform to serve, as well as the people of Awka North for their unwavering support and cooperation.
He assured Ndi Awka North that his administration would continue to deliver meaningful dividends of democracy in line with the development agenda of the Soludo administration.
Chief Anago also called on Ndi Anambra to continue to support the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in forthcoming elections, including the local government chairmanship elections and the 2027 House of Assembly and National Assembly elections.
The latest honour is one of several recognitions received by the Awka North Mayor and is being seen as further recognition of his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, grassroots development and improved service delivery to the people of Awka North.
