PHOTOS: NDLEA Uncovers N480 Billion Methamphetamine Laboratory
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has taken journalists on a site inspection of a massive industrial scale methamphetamine laboratory uncovered in a remote forest in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.
The facility, which the NDLEA estimates to be worth about N480 billion, was dismantled by the agency in May.
During the inspection, suspects linked to the facility were paraded by officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service, NCoS, before a special court proceeding was held at the site.
The proceedings were led by Justice Musa Kakaki of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos.
The judge, alongside prosecuting and defence counsel, inspected the facility and examined some of the exhibits tendered by the NDLEA.
Items found at the site included industrial cooking cylinders, drums and tanks reportedly used for storing chemicals, caustic soda, measuring scales, concrete ovens, welding helmets, nose masks and silicone sealants.
The discovery highlights the scale of the alleged illegal drug manufacturing operation and the continued efforts of the NDLEA to dismantle clandestine drug production facilities across the country.
