Calls for Investigation Trail Alleged Death of Businessman After Police Detention in Anambra

A Facebook user, Nike Dikenataogu Chigbo, has called for a thorough investigation into the death of a businessman, Mr. Paul Okika, alleging that he died after being arrested and detained by officers attached to the Awada Police Division over a family dispute.

In a post shared on the Facebook group “APGA Interactive Forum,” the user claimed that the deceased, a building materials dealer at Ogidi Market, had been experiencing marital challenges and had asked his wife to return to her family following a disagreement. According to the post, the wife allegedly sought the intervention of a human rights group, which reportedly involved the police, leading to Mr. Okika’s arrest.

The post further alleged that the businessman was tortured while in police custody and later died. It also claimed that the circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, with questions reportedly being raised over the handling of the case and the whereabouts of some personal belongings, including his mobile phones.

The Facebook user called on the Anambra State Government, the Nigeria Police Force, and relevant authorities to conduct a transparent investigation into the incident and ensure that justice is served if any wrongdoing is established.
