Peter Obi Welcomes Suspension of Examination Fees, Calls It Victory for Nigerians

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has welcomed the suspension of the newly introduced examination fees, describing the decision as a victory for the Nigerian people.

In a statement, Obi commended the authorities for responding to widespread public criticism but argued that the policy should never have been introduced, especially at a time when many Nigerians are facing severe economic hardship.

He stressed that education is a fundamental right and should not be treated as a source of government revenue, warning that additional financial burdens at the basic education level could increase the number of out of school children.

According to Obi, government has a responsibility to invest in education and remove barriers that prevent children from accessing quality learning, rather than introducing policies that make education less affordable.

He also noted that true leadership includes the willingness to reverse policies that impose unnecessary hardship on citizens, urging the government to reconsider other policies that negatively affect the welfare of Nigerians.

Obi thanked parents, citizens and advocacy groups whose collective voices, he said, contributed to the suspension of the examination fee policy, reiterating his message that “A New Nigeria is Possible.”
