Joint Security Team Neutralises Two Suspected Terrorists, Rescues Kidnap Victims in Edo

The Nigerian Army, in a joint operation with the Nigeria Police Force and local vigilante groups, has rescued three kidnapped victims, neutralised two suspected terrorists, and recovered arms and ammunition during a security operation in Edo State.

According to the Army, the operation followed a report of a kidnap incident at Ambrose Alli University on July 13, 2026. Acting on credible intelligence, troops, alongside police operatives and local vigilantes, tracked the suspected kidnappers to their hideout in Esan Local Government Area.

The joint security team engaged the suspects in a fierce gun battle, during which two of the alleged terrorists were killed. The remaining members of the gang reportedly fled the area under sustained pressure, abandoning their captives.

The Army said all three kidnapped victims were rescued unharmed, while security personnel recovered three AK 47 rifles, 39 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, three mobile phones and two power banks from the scene.

The recovered exhibits are in the custody of security agencies, while efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders to combat criminal activities and protect lives and property across the country. It also appealed to members of the public to continue providing credible intelligence on criminal hideouts and the activities of suspected collaborators.
