Gunmen Abduct 60 Year Old Headmaster in Oyo, Demand N30 Million Ransom

Gunmen have abducted a 60 year old farmer and headmaster of Nomadic Basic School, Kolawale Mathew Owoade, in Itesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident, saying the victim was kidnapped on Saturday evening while returning from his farm in Budo Aare.

According to the victim’s son, Abiola Owoade, the abductors contacted the family shortly after the incident using his father’s mobile phone and demanded N30 million for his release.

A search team later recovered the victim’s abandoned motorcycle in a nearby bush at about 8:20 a.m. on Sunday, while efforts to secure his rescue continue.

The latest abduction comes just days after security agencies rescued 44 pupils and teachers who had been kidnapped in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. The victims had spent about 56 days in captivity before regaining their freedom following a coordinated operation by the military, the Department of State Services and the police.

The Oyo State Police Command says investigations are ongoing as efforts intensify to rescue the headmaster unharmed and apprehend those responsible for the abduction.
