EFCC Arraigns Alleged Fake Car Dealer Over N15.4 Million Fraud in Enugu
The (EFCC) has arraigned Chukwuebuka Anacletus Ogbonna, alleged to be operating under the business name Monpere’s Autos, before the Enugu State High Court over an alleged N15.4 million vehicle importation fraud.
Ogbonna was arraigned before Justice Vincent C. Ezeugwu of the Enugu State High Court, sitting in Independence Layout, Enugu, on a four count charge bordering on stealing by conversion involving N15.4 million.
According to the EFCC, the defendant allegedly fraudulently converted money paid to him by Paulson Nwakoby for the purchase and importation of vehicles to his personal use.
The anti graft agency alleged that the complainant paid the accused N15.4 million in October 2023 to facilitate the importation of three vehicles, which were to be delivered on or before December 25, 2023. However, the EFCC said the vehicles were neither delivered nor was the money refunded.
The alleged offences are said to contravene the Criminal Code Law of Enugu State.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
Following his plea, EFCC counsel, ACE II Rotimi Ajobiewe, asked the court to fix a date for trial and remand the defendant pending the hearing of his bail application.
Justice Ezeugwu subsequently adjourned the matter until July 16, 2026, for the hearing of the bail application and ordered that the defendant be remanded at the EFCC facility pending further proceedings.
