SASA Destroys Illicit Drugs Worth Millions, Vows Sustained Crackdown on Crime in Anambra

The Anambra State Special Anti Touting Squad Agency, SASA, has destroyed illicit drugs worth millions of naira seized during intelligence driven operations across different parts of the state, reaffirming its determination to rid the state of criminal activities linked to drug abuse and trafficking.
The destruction exercise took place at the agency’s headquarters at Upper Iweka, Onitsha, where officials publicly burned the confiscated substances to ensure they never return to circulation. The exercise formed part of the state government’s ongoing campaign against drug trafficking, touting and other crimes that threaten public safety.
Speaking during the exercise, the Managing Director of SASA, Mr. Monday Nwokoye, said the drugs were recovered during coordinated raids on suspected criminal hideouts. He disclosed that the destroyed items included cocaine, cannabis sativa, tramadol, loud, mkpulu mmiri and other prohibited narcotics.
According to him, all suspects arrested during the operations have been handed over to the appropriate security agencies for thorough investigation and prosecution. He stressed that SASA remains committed to sustaining intelligence based operations aimed at dismantling drug networks and making Anambra safer for residents.
Mr. Nwokoye warned individuals involved in the sale, distribution and consumption of hard drugs to abandon such activities or face the full weight of the law. He assured that the agency would continue to intensify enforcement across the state until criminality is significantly reduced.
The SASA boss also commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his continued support for the agency’s operations and appealed to members of the public to volunteer credible information that would assist security agencies in identifying criminal elements within their communities.
One of the eyewitnesses, Chibuike Obi, described the exercise as transparent, noting that many people often doubt whether seized drugs are truly destroyed. He said witnessing the public destruction firsthand convinced him that the operation was genuine and demonstrated the agency’s commitment to preventing the drugs from finding their way back into society.
The exercise concluded with the supervised public destruction of the confiscated drugs by SASA operatives, reinforcing the agency’s message of zero tolerance for illicit drug activities in Anambra State.
