5 Month Old Baby Dies At Anambra East Council Headquarters After Father Was Detained During Sanitation Exercise

A 5-month-old baby has died at the headquarters of Anambra East Local Government, Otuocha, where Environmental Officers reportedly detained his father.
According to the young mother of the child, Chiamaka Anikpee, on Saturday, 4th July 2026, her husband and the father of the dead child left the house to bring a ‘medicine woman’ for their child who was suffering from convulsion, and was arrested by the Environmental Officers enforcing the special sanitation exercise who detained him until Monday.
She explained that after she did not see or hear from her husband, she visited her mother-in-law and together they went out to find a solution to the child’s health challenge.
The young mother, however, noted that whenever any health issue arises, the children usually feel better in the presence of their father.
On getting credible information about her husband’s whereabouts, Mrs. Anikpee said she called “one man” who works at the local government headquarters on the said Monday and explained the child’s sickness, pleading that “they” should confiscate her husband’s motorcycle and release him for the sake of the child, and on personal recognition.
When the call yielded no result, Mrs. Anikpee said she went to the Anambra East Local Government Headquarters, Otuocha, with the sick child and showed those holding her husband, but they simply advised her not to cause trouble.
She further narrated that on seeing the second-in-command at the local government headquarters, the man told her to wait for the main boss who was not around, and later advised her to visit a certain man for the treatment of the child.
As she was about to do as the man advised, the child died on the spot and she was told that nothing could be done about the situation, according to the bereaved mother who spoke on a Facebook reel by Sunny-Okosun Mmadubuonu.
