Kanayo O. Kanayo tackles Ghanaian actors over pay demands
Veteran Nigerian actor, Kanayo O. Kanayo has criticised what he described as a practice among some Ghanaian actors of demanding the same fees paid to Nigerian actors on joint movie productions.
Kanayo, popularly known as KOK, made the remarks while speaking to Ghanaian media shortly after arriving in Accra for a movie project.
The veteran actor said some Ghanaian actors allegedly insist on being paid the same amount as Nigerian actors before agreeing to participate in a production.
Kanayo argued that actors should negotiate their individual fees based on their experience and standing in the industry rather than compare their remuneration with that of other actors.
He said, “Negotiate what you want to be paid. Don’t equate yourself with me.”
Kanayo also stated that the issue had reportedly surfaced in the Ghanaian production he was preparing to work on, adding that he had considered mentioning the names of some actors involved before being advised against it.
His comments have drawn attention to differences in remuneration, status and negotiations between actors working across the Nigerian and Ghanaian film industries.
