The Anambra State Government has resolved to streamline its various law enforcement groups to eliminate duplication of functions, reduce conflicts and improve accountability to residents.
The decision reached at last Monday’s Executive Council of the state government chaired by Governor Chukwuma Soludo at the Light House, Awka.
According to a statement released yesterday and signed by the Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr Law Mefor, the council also approved measures on government lands, education, the Anambra Mixed-Use Industrial City and the state’s annual cultural programme, ‘Onwa Dezemba’.
On law enforcement, the council said the planned streamlining would eliminate function overlap and proliferation among state enforcement groups, while improving their functionality and accountability to citizens.
The council also resolved to repossess and repurpose all occupied government lands across the state.
The decision, according to the statement, followed reports of widespread encroachment on government lands and the need to make such lands available for government projects.
The government advised illegal occupants of government lands to vacate the properties, warning that there may be no further notice before enforcement and repossession.
Meanwhile, the council said the Anambra Mixed-Use Industrial City, AMIC, was set to take off in earnest, with the government inviting prospective investors to engage in discussions.
It identified access roads, electricity, water supply and security as key infrastructure and services being emphasised to facilitate investment in the industrial city.
In another development, the state government announced plans to conduct integrity tests on students’ hostels in schools across Anambra to ensure the safety of students while declaring its intention to upgrade the Material Testing Laboratory in the state, while the relevant law establishing it will be strengthened to ensure reliable integrity testing.
The council further announced plans for the 2026 edition of ‘Onwa Dezemba’, scheduled for December.
The programme, introduced by the Soludo administration in December 2025, is expected to feature several events from last year’s edition as well as documentaries showcasing how communities across Anambra celebrate the yuletide.
The government said it was committed to harnessing and institutionalising the yuletide period as an important opportunity for Ndi Anambra at home and in the diaspora to connect and participate in cultural and social activities.
