NLC Assures EFCC Of Support In Fight Against Corruption
The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has pledged its support for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in the fight against corruption and illicit financial flows in Nigeria.
The NLC General Secretary, Akhator Joel Odigie, made the pledge on Thursday, August 13, 2026, when he led a delegation of the union on a courtesy visit to the EFCC in Abuja. He said the visit was part of a wider African campaign by the International Trade Union Confederation Africa against illicit financial flows.
Odigie called for stronger whistleblowing mechanisms that would protect workers who report corruption, stressing that funds lost to corruption and illicit financial activities could instead be used to improve workers’ welfare and provide better social protection.
He also called for the revival of the previous partnership between the NLC and EFCC and urged stronger legal powers for the Commission to investigate and prosecute corruption cases irrespective of the status or position of suspects.
Responding, the EFCC Director of Public Affairs, Commander CE Wilson Uwujaren, who represented the Executive Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, said the Commission had moved beyond lamentation to active investigations, arrests and recovery of illicit funds. He welcomed the NLC’s support and urged the union to help renew public awareness about whistleblowing and the impact of corruption on workers’ livelihoods.
