Federal Lawmaker, Orogbu Calls for Ranking Legislator for Awka North, South

Professor Lilian Orogbu has called on the people of Awka North and Awka South Federal Constituency to work towards producing a ranking member of the National Assembly, saying such representation would enhance the constituency’s influence and access to development opportunities.

Professor Orogbu made the call while speaking at the inauguration of the Awka South Local Government and Ward executives of the National Democratic Congress, NDC.

The swearing in ceremony was presided over by the Anambra State Chairman of the party, Hon. Ikem Uzoezie, alongside other members of the State Working Committee.

Congratulating the newly inaugurated executives, Professor Orogbu urged them to carry out their responsibilities with pride, commitment and a strong sense of purpose.

She said, as disciples of Mr. Peter Obi, they could confidently point to tangible projects already on ground across the federal constituency as evidence of commitment, credibility and purposeful leadership.

However, she expressed concern that Awka North and Awka South had never produced a ranking member in the legislature, arguing that the situation had limited the constituency’s ability to attract greater dividends of democracy.

According to her, ranking in parliamentary practice is not merely a title, but an important factor that enhances a legislator’s influence, access and effectiveness.

She warned that without stronger legislative representation, the constituency could continue to lose out in the distribution of opportunities and resources at the national level.

Professor Orogbu therefore urged stakeholders and residents of Awka North and Awka South to work towards breaking the longstanding jinx by striving for higher representation and ensuring continuity in legislative leadership.

She said stronger representation would enable the constituency to consolidate on its existing gains, attract more development and strengthen its voice at the National Assembly.

Professor Orogbu also encouraged the people of Awka North and Awka South to join the NDC and become part of what she described as a movement for a new Nigeria.

She expressed optimism that collective effort, shared commitment and purposeful leadership could help build a Nigeria that reflects the values and aspirations of its citizens.

“Together, we can build a future that reflects our values, aspirations and determination to make meaningful progress,” she said.
