UNIZIK Deepens Nigeria Brazil Academic Partnership at International Conference in Brazil.

Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has taken another significant step in strengthening its global academic presence with its participation in the 4th LASUCAS International Conference held from July 1 to 3, 2026, at the Federal University of Bahia, Salvador, Brazil.
The international conference brought together scholars, policymakers, and academic leaders from Nigeria, Brazil, and other emerging economies to explore ways of advancing South South cooperation through research, education, innovation, and cultural exchange.
Representing the University were the Coordinator of the Brazilian Language and Cultural Centre, Professor Obianuju Emmanuela Agbasi, and Professor Uchechukwu Collins Nwogwugwu of the Institute of Social Policy and Strategic Studies.
During the conference, Professor Agbasi presented a paper on Nigeria Brazil Economic Relations, highlighting the growing importance of trade, education, technology, agriculture, and cultural diplomacy in strengthening bilateral relations and promoting sustainable development between both countries.
The conference also served as a platform for expanding international collaboration, with participants discussing opportunities for joint research, staff and student exchange programmes, postgraduate partnerships, and stronger institutional networks.
A major highlight was the approval by the Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University to provide institutional support for the establishment and advancement of the Brazilian Language and Cultural Centre at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, a move expected to deepen linguistic, cultural, and academic cooperation between Nigeria and Brazil.
The University’s participation underscores its commitment to internationalisation, academic excellence, and global engagement.
It is expected that the outcomes of the conference will further enhance teaching, research, innovation, and intercultural exchange while creating new opportunities for strategic partnerships that will strengthen UNIZIK’s position as a globally connected institution dedicated to advancing knowledge and South South cooperation.
