Anambra Government Assures Residents of Planned Repair of Nodu Goodwill Junction Road
The Anambra State Government has assured residents that the failed section of the Nodu Goodwill Junction Road in Okpuno, Awka South Local Government Area, will soon be repaired to ease the hardship faced by commuters and residents of Isuaniocha, Mgbakwu, and Okpuno.
The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Architect Okey Ezeobi, gave the assurance while speaking at his office in Awka and said Governor Chukwuma Soludo is aware of the complaints over deteriorating roads across the state and is committed to rehabilitating critical road infrastructure before they deteriorate further.
Architect Ezeobi expressed concern over the poor maintenance culture among residents, noting that many government road projects are damaged due to negligence and the failure of communities to take ownership of public infrastructure.
He urged residents to regularly clear drainage channels to prevent flooding, explaining that blocked drains often cause water to overflow onto roads, leading to rapid deterioration of infrastructure built with public funds and also called for a change in attitude towards the protection of government projects.
Speaking on behalf of road users, a commercial tricycle operator, Mr. Augustine Ezema, and a businessman in the area, Mr. Anthony Oraefo, commended Governor Soludo for the construction of the major drainage channel that channels floodwater from the area to Iyiagu, as well as the ongoing road development projects across the state.
They appealed to the government to urgently rehabilitate the failed section of the Nodu Goodwill Junction Road, particularly the portion where the drainage begins, warning that it is gradually developing into a major gully and poses a serious risk to motorists and residents.
