NYSC Provides Free Healthcare to Over 120 Achalla Residents
No fewer than 120 indigent residents of Achalla Community in Awka North Local Government Area have benefited from the National Youth Service Corps Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers, a programme aimed at improving access to quality healthcare in underserved communities.
The second quarter 2026 medical outreach was held at the Achalla Town Hall and flagged off by the Anambra State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, Mrs. Pauline Ojisua. She commended the community for embracing the initiative and described the Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers as one of the scheme’s flagship community development programmes designed to provide free and essential healthcare services to rural populations.
Beneficiaries received free medical consultations, laboratory tests, eye screening, treatment, and medications during the outreach. The intervention was aimed at addressing the healthcare needs of vulnerable residents who have limited access to medical services.
The President General of the Achalla Development Union, Mr. Enukora, and the Chairman of the Community Health Committee, Mr. William Nwude, praised the National Youth Service Corps for bringing the healthcare programme to the community, describing it as a timely intervention that has improved access to essential medical services. The Assistant Director in charge of Community Development Service, Mr. Tony Ibekwe, also encouraged residents to take advantage of future free healthcare initiatives.
The outreach reflects the continued commitment of the National Youth Service Corps to supporting government efforts to improve healthcare delivery and promote healthy living in rural communities across Anambra State.
